The Chapel of the Holy Spirit is at the very heart of our ministry at Still Hopes. The ground breaking for the Chapel took place on December 5, 1996. On September 21, 1997, the Chapel was consecrated by The Right Reverend Dorsey F. Henderson, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina.
There are twelve stained glass windows in the Chapel. Each window portrays a Biblical story, beginning with Creation and going through the Ascension of Jesus Christ. Full descriptions of each window and of other beautiful elements of the interior are included in a self-guided tour handout available upon visiting the Chapel.
The primary worship service is the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Sunday mornings at 11:00 am. While this and other services are from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer (1979), every effort is made to insure that this Chapel is a house of prayer for all people, especially in the music, which uses hymns of all denominations.
All services are open to the public and residents of Still Hopes are encouraged to invite family and friends to attend.
A weekly healing service is offered on Tuesdays. Holy Communion is offered in Wednesday services and celebrated in the three healthcare units.
Special services of the Christian Year are offered on appropriate days, such as Holy Communion with the Imposition of Ashes offered on Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent. A Bible study is offered on Monday mornings and a Quarterly Memorial Service is celebrated in memory of those residents who have died in the previous three months. As needed, funeral or burial services, weddings and baptisms for residents and staff are celebrated in the Chapel -- very often with local pastors and other clergy assisting the Chaplain.
While the Chapel is used for various activities, one always has a sense of the sacred upon entering the beautiful and inviting place for worship.
Father Johnnie M. Davis, Chaplain joined the Still Hopes family in May of 2009.
