Our Community

“Why didn’t we do this sooner?”   Life Here is Better!

Our residents love the Still Hopes lifestyle and we think you will, too.  For many, the transition means leaving a large, demanding home for a smaller home where housekeeping, maintenance and landscaping are provided.  What's not to love about that?  Residents live independently in beautifully designed apartments and cottages on a uniquely historic wooded campus less than five minutes from downtown Columbia.

Beyond the way the community looks, it’s the way it lives that’s so appealing.  Our resident-centered lifestyle aspires to be the finest of its kind by providing dining, cultural opportunities, stylish facilities and a world-class wellness program.

Imagine a social environment that’s yours for the taking.  Outings to local restaurants, water aerobics, pickup games of bridge or Boggle – the options are limited only by the imagination of our residents.  We even have our own glee club and English hand bell choir!

Weekly services are held in our beautiful Chapel of the Holy Spirit where our full-time chaplain offers Bible study and personal ministry.

Many residents say they haven’t felt this engaged in life for decades.  Others are reminded of their college days when friends were easy to find and when fun could break out at any moment.  It’s a lifestyle that’s easy and relaxed, yet purposeful and peaceful.  Also, residents who wish are actively involved with the management team and Board in the planning and operations of the community.

And whether they are native South Carolinians or hail from across the country, Still Hopes residents rave about Columbia.  Downtown Columbia is a lively, lovely place.  Genteel and southern, it’s right-sized and easy to get around.

Columbia is a city of four-season charms, from summer festivals to Christmas parades.  Browse for antiques on a Sunday afternoon in the city’s historic Congaree Vista district.  Dine at a sidewalk café or check out the newest exhibit at the South Carolina State Museum.  Home to the University of South Carolina, the city attracts top lecturers, entertainment and sporting events.  And people over 65 can attend USC classes for free!

The rich lifestyle, relaxed pace and temperate climate make Columbia a leading U.S. retirement destination.  In 2009, the city was named one of Money Magazine’s “25 Best Places to Retire” and was one of  U.S.  News Group’s 10 “Best Affordable Places to Retire.”  And for the sixth consecutive year, Still Hopes received Columbia Metropolitan Magazine’s “Best Of” Award for retirement communities.
