Strong Bodies
This is a strength & conditioning class designed to work all major muscle groups using dumbbells, elastic bands, soft-touch balls, and body weight. This class is performed in seated and supported standing positions and consists of muscle and joint warm up followed by resistance exercises. Class concludes with gentle stretching. [Exclusively for Residents of Still Hopes]
Take A Seat
This is an aerobic conditioning class consisting of rhythmical movement performed while seated and concludes with light muscular conditioning in a supported standing position. Balance and functional training are incorporated into some exercises.
Vital Motion
This is conducted from chair seating only. The class performs gentle stretches and range-of-motion exercises for 20 minutes for the benefit of joint health, limbering, pain relief and postural improvement.
ABC (Agility, Balance & Coordination)
This class incorporates standing dance and exercise movements into a 45 minute program. The goal of this class is to increase balance and coordination while increasing stamina, strength, flexibility, and agility. The class will finish with a series of floor exercises designed to increase “core” trunk strength performed while lying and sitting on mats. You will be taught how to lower yourself to the floor and rise again. Reasonable unsupported stability is a must for this class.
Floor Exercise Flexibility and strength are emphasized in this class performed entirely on floor mats in seated, kneeling, and lying positions. Some yoga and Pilates exercises are included.
Stay in Balance
A 10-week dynamic balance intervention developed for study by the Exercise Science Department at USC. This program is designed to improve balance awareness and performance of complex walking skills in order to decrease the risk of falling. Pre-registration and fee are required.
Hip School
Hip School is a combination of education about joint health and care and specific exercises for those with hip osteoarthritis or hip replacements. Strength, flexibility, and proper joint alignment are emphasized. Classes will begin September 2010. Pre-registration and fee are required.
